2022 trumbauer awards

Presented biennially by the Philadelphia Chapter of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art, the Trumbauer Awards honored exemplary work in architecture, design, planning, landscape, decorative, and fine arts that preserve and advance the classical tradition. Planning of the 2020 Awards was curtailed by Covid, like so many other public events, but the organization proved resilient, holding the postponed awards in November of 2022.

In charge of the marketing and communications for the Chapter, I served on the awards committee. Since live jurying was still risky due to Covid, we needed to pivot to a digital submission process and payment solution - a process which I managed, as well as event-related communications, marketing and graphic design - including the program book (at right). The event was a great success, lauded by attendees, and exceeded all financial goals.

Course Catalogs (2017-2018)

In 2017, as Marketing Director, I redesigned the course catalog template and website registration system, with support from the Program Director. Our goals were to align the online and in-person experience, utilize the course catalog to tell the story of the GoggleWorks brand and help improve brand perception, and create clear entry points for beginners, intermediates and professionals to understand and access GoggleWorks’ offerings - like the new Handcrafted Home workshop series and rebranded Maker Dates. In this year, program revenue increased by 48% and course cancellation rate dropped from 62% to 18%.

In 2018, as Chief Creative Officer, the focus turned towards thematic program development as a way of capturing and building an audience, all the while staying true to GoggleWorks identity. For example, Fall 2018 programs included a visiting artist who worked in thread and the design of the catalog (at right) reflected that. To emphasize the handcrafting nature of our community and content, photographs were printed and then embellished with embroidery by myself and a few others, and then re-photographed for the layout. These little books certainly grew to create a buzz, and since the quantity was limited, really sought after.

summer residency program

In 2018, GoggleWorks welcomed three artist-in-residents after much planning and preparation by myself and the Program Director. As a new program, we developed the application and review process for artists, as well as the accompanying programming, including public lectures, receptions, artist workshops, and exhibition.

I was also responsible for all associated outreach, communications, and marketing of the program and related events; including the accompanying print publication, Addendum (at right).

Arts Festival Reading

I co-chaired the Arts Festival committee in 2018 with an emphasis on event planning/management, developing programming through strategic partnerships, and executed all marketing and communications.

Presented by GoggleWorks Center for the Arts, this weekend-long festival featured handcrafted items and art from over 100 regional and local artists, live music, demonstrations, hands-on workshops, local food & beverages. Local partners included Yocum Institute for Arts Education, Walk In Art Center, and Belly Kitchen & Drinkery. Photo credit: Chris Kendig Photography

spring iron pour

In collaboration with the Program Director, we developed this, now annual, event as an anchor for the Spring course catalog and cement a successful partnership between GoggleWorks and Albright College. It was the culmination of a visiting artist program and series of public lectures and workshops. My role was in developing the visual identity of the event, along with programming and marketing.

Presented by GoggleWorks Center for the Arts in partnership with Albright College, this annual event features a visiting artist-led iron pour, live music and performances, local food, and craft beverages provided by Sly Fox Brewing Company.

pearl street passage | an artplace america project

For the first four days of DesignPhiladelphia 2015, Pearl Street was transformed into an interactive exhibition and performance space by ten teams of architects, designers, fabricators, and artists. Key partners included Asian Arts Initiative, Friends of the Rail Park, Philadelphia Center for Architecture + Design, and Groundswell Design Group. Project supported by ArtPlace America and the John S. & James L. Knight Foundation.

My role was in co-conception of the grant project, planning and management of all aspects, serving on the curatorial committee, developing adjacent public programs, and the marketing/communications surrounding the Festival.

From 2013 to 2015, I served as program manager with responsibilities including creative direction, managing event partners, fundraising initiatives, communications, marketing and public relations. In that time, reach was improved from 40k to 400k and program revenue from $78k to over $200k.

hidden city philadelphia

the hidden city philadelphia festival

For six weeks the Hidden City Philadelphia Festival celebrated the power of place through the imagination of contemporary artists, inspiring people to explore the city’s history and imagine new futures for its urban landscape. Artists of diverse disciplines and media created site-specific work that illuminated abandoned, obscure or inaccessible sites throughout the city.

My role was graphic design of marketing collateral, site-specific communication, and press liaison.

popup place

The opening event for DesignPhiladelphia 2012 featured a sustainable fashion show by So Re Fa, interactive sculptures and installations, projection art, and /adaptations/, an exhibition of sustainable furniture designs curated by Ginni Stiles. I was the site coordinator, acting liaison between Provenance and DesignPhiladelphia to ensure the space met the needs of the event. I also designed the surfaces for the exhibition and photo booth (pictured at left).

Designing & Building Reclaimed

I developed this multi-faceted event, held during DesignPhiladelphia 2011, to fulfill Provenance’s goals of outreach to the local design community in a way that engages and educates them about using reclaimed materials and architectural salvage in design. I delivered a short presentation on how Provenance Architecturals reclaimed an ipe boardwalk into flooring for the Barnes Foundation, and moderated a panel discussion of local designers and architects who used reclaimed materials in their work. The evening also included the opening reception for an exhibition of artworks and furniture made of reclaimed materials by local artists and designers.
